IN/DIGITAL SPACES – Performance Culmination

This project is presented as an exploration of te ao hangarau, the technological world, spanning past, present, and future. We delve into what it means to be Māori in a digital space, inviting the audience to step inside a representation of Māori computational existence. How does it feel to be Māori in a tech-driven future? What might it feel like to be Māori 1,000 years from now, in a world where technology is all-encompassing? The installation is a chasm, a gap, a void—an immersive space where we can explore these ideas, uplifting and elevating our voices as tangata whenua, coexisting with and as the future of the digital world.

About

Our team has come together over years of working in different spaces. Janaye and Bea met in theatre, doing community outreach mahi in schools. Shaun and Nicholas met in underground rave scenes and through various music endeavours. The intersections of these worlds have led to this piece of art IN/DIGITAL SPACES. The people involved in this project are a tapestry of diverse whakapapa. From theatre to coding and digital design, we set out to explore a topic that is important to all of us. Through these differences we hope to create something beautiful that ties together many different perspectives.
